Welcome to the website for the College of Science, Health and Engineering. |
The College of Science, Health and Engineering is comprised of eleven departments with steadily increasing student enrollments. Eastern's 2006-07 quarterly enrollment averaged 9,543 students. Our College engaged over 29 percent of the total university student population in courses delivered by our faculty, and we do not see that decreasing any time soon. The academic programs in our College are in very high demand, especially the health sciences and their supporting programs, which is an exciting challenge that we approach very seriously. We are committed to high quality undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs as well as demanding standards for our faculty, staff and students.
There are many exciting things happening in the College and the university as a whole. Some recent highlights are:
- In spring 2005, we graduated our first doctoral class in Physical Therapy.
- Our new Computing & Engineering Building opened for classes in fall 2005. Many sources contributed to equipment grants and gifts, including the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Fluke, Fluke Networks, Agilent, Tektronix, XN Technologies, and the Murdock Foundation, as well as federal and state appropriations.
- Our growing forensics program has established a partnership with the new Washington State Patrol crime lab on campus.
- Our dental hygiene students are partnering with UW dental students and community college dental assistants for a real-world dental team experience.
- We now have degree completion programs located at Clark College, Bellevue Community College, Shoreline Community College, South Seattle Community College, and Pierce College.
- The state approved our new BS program in Electrical Engineering.
- We established two new centers which will give students and faculty opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills–the Center for Digital Media Design & Development and the Center for Network Computing & Cyber Security.
- We added an Associate Dean for Health Sciences.
- We have a new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design, which is offered jointly by the Departments of Engineering & Design and Art.
During the coming year, we look forward to pursuing a number of new initiatives. The University of Washington Medical and Dental Schools are adding first-year medical and first-year dental programs in Spokane. We also look forward to expanding our industry partnerships through a Society of Manufacturing Engineers grant.
