Welcome!
Below are links or instructions that will streamline some of the processes that take place for students of the Biology Department.
To declare Biology as your major:
Come to SCI 258 and speak with Secretary Senior, Carissa Gusman. Please know what option you will be declaring and possibly what advisor you prefer.
- go to Academic Advising, Sutton Hall 3rd floor, to get your student file and hand carry it to SC 258 to declare. Please know what option you will be declaring and possibly what advisor you prefer.
- If you are a transfer student: upon the University accepting you, please see someone in the Biology office, SCI 258 to declare. Once declared or there about, an appointment will be scheduled for you to see a general biology advisor to:
- determine course equivalencies
- map your courses for the immediate future
- determine your advisor based upon your field of study or career goals
Your student file will be kept in the Biology Office. You may come to the office and check your file out at any time. Please return your file when you are done in case a professor needs to review it.
If you have an advising appointment, it would be an efficient use of your time, as well as the advisor's, to have your file in hand while being advised. After your appointment please return it as soon as possible.
Advising:
Most Biology Professors are advisors in their specialty (click for the list of advisors based upon subject/specialty.) Each advisor schedules their own appointments except Dr. Gibson. Please see our directory for Professors' contact information and office hours. You may contact them by email, telephone or wait for office hours.
If your advisor is Dr. Flash Gibson, please call 359-6977 to schedule an appointment.
