Welcome! Our undergraduate program, to keep pace with our graduate program, is on a semester schedule and is located on the Riverpoint Campus in Spokane, WA. The upcoming Fall semester 2009 classes begin August 24, 2009. The program's general goal is to provide a sound academic background and to complement that instruction with clinical training and experience sufficient to equip the student to provide competent diagnostic and treatment services to the spectrum of communication disordered individuals in a range of employment settings.
Advising: The program is designed to begin in the junior year. The program is on a semester schedule. This means that students entering the program MUST have all their university GECRs and an International Studies course (a university graduation requirement) complete. In addition; the program requires a public speaking course, and a statistics course. These courses may be completed at other institutions prior to admission. If you want to get started in the program now or are just thinking about majoring in Communication Disorders, you may want to take COMD 301 Introduction to Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology online. You can enroll in the course even though you currently are not attending Eastern. See: ewu.edu/online course listings for more information.
Because of the rigor required in our course work, we require students applying to the program and/or declaring Communication Disorders as their major, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. This minimum is also necessary to remain in the program. (Per our national ASHA standards; a minimum of 2.0 is required within our departmental prerequisite courses). The Undergraduate and Graduate Department of Communication Disorders is located on the Riverpoint campus in Spokane WA. Clinical observations can be conducted at the University Programs in Communication Disorders (UPCD) Speech and Hearing Clinic in Spokane and in numerous off-campus sites in the area. Supervised clinical practicum may begin as early as the senior year and continue throughout the program.
