     APTP Mathematics Placement Test sessions at EWU are scheduled and held in a group setting that is limited to 40 examinees.  Therefore, examinees are required to pre-register for a test session (*refer to section "Before the Test Session").  If you cannot pre-register for a test session, then please show up to be considered as an examinee on a "Standby" basis.  Pre-registered & "Standby" Examinees will need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the test session for check in.  Examinees should also expect to be in the testing room at least 90 minutes to allow time for delivery of test instructions, materials, and testing. 

Before the Test Session:

  • Pre-register for a test session - call MPT Hotline (509) 359-4991 and leave a message with the following information: Test session date, examinee's name & middle initial, EWU ID#, and return phone number to call when requested test session is full.
  • Determine what APTP MPT type you will take - please refer to the comparisons listed below. 
    Intermediate/General test is taken if you passed through equivalent of Algebra II in high school and  plan to take Math 104/114/105/115/200/or 211.
    Advanced test is taken if you passed Pre-Calculus and/or Calculus in high school and plan to take Math 106/380/ or 161. 
  • Examinees who have a documented disability will need make prior arrangements for accommodations with Disability Support Services Office (509) 359-4706.
  • Practice test sample problems that are available in Kingston Hall 216 or web site http://www.ewu.edu/mathplacement.
  • Pay $25 APTP MPT Fee to Student Financial Services on 2nd floor in Sutton Hall.
  • Bring your photo-ID card, receipt, and two #2 lead pencils to the testing room. 
    The scratch paper will be provided by the test proctor.

At the Test Session:

  •  Examinees are required to show their photo-identifcation card & receipt to the test proctor.
  • Calcuator - any other similar aid or notes are not allowed during the test.
  •  Examinees allowed 60 minutes to take the test; when finish early are required to leave the testing room.
  • Examiness are allowed extra testing time, only if they made prior arrangements with the EWU Disability Support Services Office (509) 359-4706.

After the test session:

  • View test score:  Log into EagleNet; Select Student & Financial Aid; Select Student Records - Select SOAR Degree Audit and log in; Click Audits (tab); Select Request a New Audit; Click on Run Selected Program and Select Degree Prog: Test Scores; Select Catalog Year: ___; Click on Submit a New Audit; Click on Refresh List; Click on Open Audit to view Test Scores degree audit Click on the words Test Scores to drop down math placement test score.
  • Students without internet access will need to obtain their test score in person by presenting their photo-ID card to the Department of Mathematics or Academic Advisor.  If this is inconvenient, then call the APTP Office at (206) 543-8499 to have them mail your official score report to you.
  • Determine math course placement by finding your test type & score on the APTP MPT Cut-Off Score Chart www.ewu.edu/mathplacement .  If your score placed you into several math courses, then take the one that will satisfy your general education mathematics requirement.  When in doubt about this, ask your Academic Advisor.  Students who placed into college level math & graduated from high school within the last year should refer to the  Enrollment Exception Policy to determine their eligibility for MATH 106 or MATH 161.

Retest Policy- Examinees may take each type of test, Intermediate (MPI)/General (MPG) and Advanced (MPA), twice within any one calendar year period, with a minimum two-week wait between retaking the same test type.  Examinees who took the Advanced  test may choose to take the Intermediate/General test when it is next offered and vice versa.  Examinees are required to pay $25 for each time they take the test.
