A Mathematics/Secondary Endorsement is generally required in order to teach Mathematics at the secondary level (Grades: 9-12). Also prospective Middle School Mathematics teachers (Grades 7-8) will find themselves more competitive in the job market with an earned Endorsement. The Mathematics Endorsement can be obtained through the Mathematics/Secondary Education Major or Minor Progam as outlined in the link B.A.E, Mathematics/Secondary Major
An Elementary Mathematics teachers (Grades K-6) are generally not expected to have an Endorsement. For an explanation of the requirements for certification to teach K-8: view the web page that indicates the B.A.E Mathematics/Elementary Degree Program).
NOTE: In order to be eligible for an Endorsement through the minor, you must have either an endorsement in another subject area or be certified to teach Mathematics at the K-8 level. Both majors and minors of the Secondary Math Education program are also required to take the state administered Washington Educator Skills Test-Basic (WEST-B) test.
