BACKGROUND
Pi Mu Epsilon is a national honor society founded in 1914. Its purpose is to promote the study of
mathematics and to reward mathematical achievement. The EWU chapter, formally known as the
Pi Mu Epsilon Zeta Chapter, was chartered in 1981.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is an honor. To qualify for membership, the applicant must have either
1. completed MATH 161, 162, 163 (or equivalent) with an average grade of 3.0 or higher, or
2. have completed at least four math courses with MATH 162 as a direct or implied prerequisite
with an average grade of 3.0 or higher.

An applicant must be a current student (undergraduate or graduate), but need not be a mathematics
